Of course the Milky Way doesn’t look like this to the naked eye. Today’s cameras (I use the Sony A7rii) have remarkable light sensitivity and coupled with wide open lenses (I use a Rokinon 24mm 1.4 for night images), you can capture incredible low light images. Nevertheless, lying in a sleeping bag on the remote Salmon River on a moonless summer night like this makes it easy to see it in all its celestial glory.
