We asked some local friends for the best remote place in the area to hike into for a couple of nights. They told us that while difficult to get to, this spot was their favorite; totally worth it. Wow, they were right. After a half day of steeps, this alpine lake surrounded by peaks was our reward; and we had it all to ourselves.
Before bed, we watched a lightning storm blow in from across the valley (you can see the wind whipping the fire here). We battened down the hatches as the strikes got closer. Pitch dark and above 10,000 feet, there was nowhere to go so we found proper shelter and watched Mother Nature put on a banger for us.
