While in Vietnam for work this week, Ryan Broshar and I were able to carve out a day to do some exploring. A cheap 30 minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City landed us on the small island of Phú Quốc where fishing has supported the local economy for generations. Armed with motorbikes we rented for $2, we witnessed an island in the midst of mind-blowing massive international investment which will no doubt result in Phú Quốc becoming one of the great tourist destinations of S.E. Asia. For now though, with a little bit of work you can still find tiny fishing villages like this as well as hidden beaches you can have all to yourself.
